Dr Rintje Agricola

Rintje Agricola is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Senior researcher. He completed is PhD on the development of the hip and studying risk factors for hip osteoarthritis in 2015 (cum laude). Besides his clinical residency to become an orthopaedic surgeon, he also started to build his own and independent research group. He is the initiator and chair of the Worldwide Collaborative initiative on OsteoArthritis prediCtion of the Hip (World COACH) consortium, a consortium consisting all prospective cohort studies on hip osteoarthritis worldwide. Within this consortium he will develop AI related computer vision techniques to automatically analyze hip radiographs and to create innovative personalized prediction models for hip osteoarthritis.

Clinically, he is one of the pioneers in the digital transformation of orthopaedic practice and prediction modeling for orthopaedic diseases. Together with others, he initiated the ‘AI taskforce’ within the Dutch Orthopaedic Society which aims at teaching, networking and bringing data together on Orthopaedic related research.
